Biography

Working almost exclusively in watercolour, David E Johnston paints Mearns landscapes, its shorelines and seascapes. Following in a tradition of Scottish landscape painting, he painted on the spot for many years though his work is now mainly studio-based where he develops his paintings from sketches, digital images and visual memory. He exhibits widely across the North-East of Scotland, in Edinburgh and London. His has works in the collections of the Royal Bank of Scotland and Aberdeenshire Council. Elected a member of the Royal Society of painters in Watercolour in 2017, he currently serves as RSW Vice President East.
